My Carry-On Must-Haves

After my trip to Portugal this past summer and while planning my upcoming trip to the east coast for BlogJam Atlantic, I thought about what items I like to have with me in my carry-on. Previously, I wrote about my Travel Essentials, which really haven't changed much, but I thought I should write about my carry-on essentials too.

My carry-on essentials are really important because they are what I'll have with me during my trip before arriving at my destination. Having these items helps me to relax and enjoy my journey to my planned destination.

Water Bottle & Snacks

Many of us know how expensive food in airports is. That's why I like to pack snacks for the journey. Especially on shorter flights as they don't have a "meal" or sometimes even a snack. I want to make sure I have enough to munch on during my trip. I also like to have a water bottle so I can refill it inside the airport. My mouth gets fairly dry when I'm in the air, so I'm happy to bring a bottle (sometimes even two) along.

Entertainment (phone, headphones, book(s), laptop)

Depending on the flight, you may or may not have in-flight entertainment. Regardless, I like to carry my own just in case. It's also good to have them for your vacation in general if you find yourself in need to relax or pass the time if you are in the car for a long time getting to another destination. Of course, when bringing electronics, I always make sure I have the appropriate chargers with me as well.

Extra Clothes

This was inspired by a trip I took to Florida in 2013 on my own. It was the first time I'd travelled on a plane alone and I was taking a Greyhound bus to an airport to meet my parents. After getting stuck at the border and nearly missing my flight (literally, they closed the door to the plane as I ran on), I didn't know if my luggage would make it to Florida with me. I was a bit worried that I wasn't going to have anything with me when I arrived, but luckily, my luggage made it there with me. The whole situation made me realize that its good for me to carry an extra outfit just in case I'm not lucky in the future.

Travel-Friendly-sized Cosmetics and Medication

These are really important to me for travel. They help me get through the flight in case I ever feel sick or tired. Typically, in my case I have:

  • Gravol

  • Tylenol

  • Deodorant

  • Gum

  • Hand cream

  • Hand sanitizer and wipes

  • Lip balm

All of these can help to make my trip just a little smoother. Truthfully, I haven't gone on a flight longer than 10 hours, so I'm not sure if my list would change when I do travel for that long.

What do you HAVE to have in your carry-on when you travel?
